Clinical Studies: Ambrosia

Persephone Biosciences AMBROSIA Clinical Study

Persephone Biosciences has fully enrolled 400 participants in its AMBROSIA Food as Medicine clinical trial, conducted in collaboration with Kroger Health. The study is designed to understand how diet quality and Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT), guided by registered dietitians, affect the gut microbiome in people at medium-to-high risk of developing colorectal cancer (CRC).

Participants, ages 18–64, were enrolled into two groups:

  • A control group (no directed diet changes)

  • An intervention group receiving personalized MNT through virtual counseling with Kroger Health dietitians

By comparing these groups, researchers aim to learn how Food as Medicine approaches—like nutrition counseling and lifestyle change—may reduce CRC risk by positively influencing gut bacteria.

Colorectal cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in the U.S., but early intervention and prevention strategies can make a major impact. The AMBROSIA study is expected to publish results in late 2025, offering new insights into how Food as Medicine and the microbiome can work together to support long-term health.
